What does fire safety have to do with ice cream? Everything when it comes to the iconic Strawberry Sundae at the Ekka and good old fashioned community spirit!
When the call went out from The Common Good for a vehicle to assist during EKKA, Fire EMT were proud to lend them one of our vehicles to help run ice cream between the five Strawberry Sundae stalls early in the morning before the Ekka opened.
But much more was at stake than just delivering ice cream as all profits from the stalls went to support life changing medical research at the Prince Charles Hospital.
And this year was a record breaker! Over 127,000 Strawberry Sundaes were sold with 20,200 of these being sold on People’s Day!
The stalls are run by volunteers so it’s truly a community effort, one that we were honoured to be part of.
