Requirements for compliant evacuation diagrams are constantly changing which highlights the need for regular reviews.
Just recently there have been changes in the Qld Code of Practice (COP) for First Aid in the Workplace in relation to evacuation diagrams and what they need to show.
The COP now states ‘emergency floor plans displayed in the workplace should include the location of first aid kits’. Confusion can arise especially when words such as ‘should’, ‘may’ and ‘shall’ are used and can be misleading. In this case ‘should’ indicates a recommended course of action as opposed to ‘may’ which indicates an optional course of action.
